Skills for self-reliance

Local skill development

A community that can feed, heal, build, and teach itself is a community that can choose its own direction. These programmes develop exactly that capacity.

Programme areas

Six streams of development

As part and parcel of Thasmai Gurukulam, our social responsibilities embrace the needs of the present and future of surrounding indigenous communities. Building strong peer networks so young people never lose touch with their home culture.

Women's entrepreneurship

Business basics, record-keeping, product costing, and cooperative formation for women starting small enterprises. Graduates have launched 30+ micro-businesses since 2021.

Vocational skills

Six-week practical courses in tailoring, electrical work, carpentry, and traditional craft — offered in Telugu, with certification recognised by the National Skill Development Corporation.

Youth life skills

Emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, decision-making, and civic awareness for secondary school students aged 14–18. Delivered in partnership with local government schools.

Farmer upskilling

Practical workshops in natural farming, soil management, water conservation, and cooperative marketing — delivered at the ashram farm and in partner villages.

Mother & child health

Nutrition, hygiene, early childhood development, and maternal mental health — a programme designed with and for women in the 20 km catchment area.

Digital skills

Practical digital literacy for adults — mobile banking, government service portals, job platforms, and WhatsApp-based business communication.

The mission

Networking young people to keep cultural links alive

Gurugramam will eventually become a national skill development hub where delegates can visit and attend training sessions. It will cultivate a culture of compassionate capitalism — where emphasis is not on competition but on encouraging cooperative growth without economic injuries.

The lack of connectivity between people in the same society led to a rupture in links with home culture. Our programmes rebuild those links while equipping young people with the skills to thrive in a challenging world.

Get involved

We need people as much as funding

If you have expertise in any of these areas — especially vocational skills, nutrition, or digital literacy — you can contribute your knowledge directly as a volunteer instructor.

Corporate partners can structure CSR contributions as funded programme cohorts, measuring specific outcomes aligned with UN SDG 4 (Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work).

Charity opens the heart.
